Who doesn’t love good food and good art? So why not combine them!
When people think of Orlando they often think of Disney, theme parks, and tourism. Those who live in Orlando know that we have much more than that going for us. We are a creative city always coming up with new ideas and things to grow on. Orlando’s art scene has grown over the past few years inspiring new galleries and museums to open and feature the work of local artists. One trend that has caught on in the last couple of years is for restaurants and bars to display local artist work on their walls. This not only gives the restaurant/bar a unique ever changing feel, but allows for artist to get their name out into the community, as well as providing a platform for a community of people that want to buy their pieces. It’s the perfect win win for both the restaurant and artist.
Here is a list of restaurants that we think have perfected combing the dining experience with local art!
1. Stardust video and coffee
Located: 1842 East Winter Park Road Orlando, FL 32803
Stardust video and coffee Café has been open for 16 years. However it has managed to keep its local neighborhood feel. They do have a set menu however an array of baked goods, including vegan options is available on any given day. This quirky little coffee shop serves as a local gallery for all types of artist, and has made a name for themselves among local artist and the community.
2. Café Tu Tu Tango
Located: 8625 International Dr, Orlando, FL 3281
This restaurant might take the prize for embracing the fusion of art and food. Café Tu Tu Tango takes pride in evoking a time when artists found inspiration and community in sharing food, drink and philosophy with one another. They have made it their goal to keep this time alive. Local artists can be found painting throughout the restaurant as well their art displayed on the walls while patrons dine. The thing that sets this establishment apart from others is that artists are encouraged to display studies and sketches they have done as part of their design process to further illustrate the creative process.
3. Dandelion Café
Located: 618 N Thornton Ave, Orlando FL 32803
Dandelion Communitea Cafe is a beloved organic cafe located in the heart of Orlando and serves healthy vegetarian fare and premium loose leaf tea. This little Café is a favorite among most. They believe food should be fun, wholesome, simple, vibrant and above all, delightful and we agree! Every month they host a little event for you to come eat, and meet the local artists whose works can be found on the walls of the café. As well as art events, they also host poetry night, eco-networking, eco-film nights, moon circles, weekly vegan potlucks, and other special events to allow creative minds to come together.
4. Dexter’s of Winter Park
Located: 558 W New England Ave, Winter Park, FL
Dexter’s has many locations throughout the Central Florida area not just the one in Winter Park. They have been in business since 1984 and are known for their wine, full bar, excellent service, and award winning Sunday brunch. However you might not know that they display local art on their walls as well. Although known as a local and established casual hangout that takes food and wine very seriously, they too contribute to the art community by providing a place for local artist to show their work.
Although these are just a few places that combine dining and art, there is many more in Central Florida. Some are off the beaten trail, but I often find that those are the best! If you know of any great bars or restaurants that do display local artist works, comment and let us know below, we would love to hear from you!
