Leonor Fini was one of the most important women artists of the 20th century. Born in 1907 in Argentina, she was then raised by a single mom in Trieste, Italy. Although, she was often classified as a Surrealist and frequently participated in their exhibitions, she did not like to identify with one particular artistic style or movement. Major themes in her artwork include mysteries, games, and sexual tensions, especially the interplay between a dominant female and a passive male. Fini was also an accomplished portraitist, illustrator, theater designer, and a fashion and feminist icon.
