About the Art
Salvador Dali is considered one of the most known artists of all time. He was born in Catalonia, Spain in 1904 and is widely known for the risks he took in art and film. An artist that defined surrealism, Dali’s works are extremely complex and dynamic. Drawing on everything from everyday life to religious symbols his pieces, while bizarre, are extremely technical. He fully embraced pure, boundless creativity in his art and life and was considered a very eccentric individual. In many of his paintings, Dali used anamorphosis, a form of eccentric and exaggerated perspective which distorts objects beyond recognition; however, when seen from a particular skewed viewpoint, a legible depiction emerges. He used the power of this technique to conceal “secret” or “forbidden” images in plain sight. That is why when looking at a Dali just a change in viewpoint can completely change the image in front of you and this skillful mastery of art is just one of many reasons that make him timeless.
Port Lligat is a small village located in a small bay on Cap de Creus peninsula, on the Costa Brava of the Mediterranean Sea. The Island of Port Lligat is located at the entrance of the bay, separated from the mainland by a narrow 30-metre-wide canal. Salvador Dalí lived in the village and his house has been converted into the Casa-Museo Salvador Dalí.
