About the Art
Joan Miro was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist born in Barcelona. He cannot be said to have identified consistently with a single school. Rather, his artistic career may be characterized as one of persistent experimentation and a lifelong flirtation with non-objectivity. Miró’s signature biomorphic forms, geometric shapes, and semi-abstracted objects are expressed in multiple media, from ceramics and engravings to large bronze installations.
This abstract piece displays Miro’s usage of geometric shapes and free forms. Miro rejected the constraints of traditional painting, creating works such as this one with bright bold colors in which he pioneered a wandering linear style of Automatism—a method of “random” drawing that attempted to express the inner workings of the human psyche. This piece comes matted and framed.
