About the Art

Marc Chagall was a pioneer for Jewish artists, he had a distinct style of painting dream like scenes of personal history and European folklore. He was a painter, printmaker, book illustrator, and he even made stained glass windows. He began experimenting with Cubism in 1910 when he moved to Paris and his style is considered a mixture of Cubism, Fauvism, and Symbolism. His supernatural subjects are also thought to have significantly influenced surrealism.

Daphnis and Chloe, an ancient Greek novel and the only known work of the 2nd century AD Greek novelist and romancer Longus, is about a boy and a girl who grow up together and fall in love. At first they do not understand love though and do not know what is happening to them. Philetas, a wise old cowherd, explains to them what love is and tells them that the only cure is kissing.
