About the Art
This is an original lithograph from Salvador Dali’s Biblia Sacra series. Dali was commissioned to create a series of images based on passages from the Bible. He created a total of 105 works making it the largest suite of prints by the artist. In these works he uses a unique artistic process called “bulletism” where ink is shot onto the canvas creating an ink blot effect. The lithographs were commissioned by Guiseppe Albaretto, a good friend of Dali who was also a leading patron of his work. Albaretto wanted to lead the artist to God and back to the Catholic Church. The spontaneous bulletism process and the rich colors in the image truly highlight Dali’s range of creativity and use of space.
This print is based on a verse from the book of Genesis in which God decided that man should not be alone and created woman from the side of man. Shades of red and purple abound in this piece suggesting love and adoration. Man and woman lie diagonally and an angel blesses their union.
