About the Art

This colorful lithograph is by well-known American artist Jane Wooster-Scott. She is well known for her highly detailed paintings that capture the spirit of a bygone era in the United States. For 15 years, her paintings have summoned memories of a national heritage; the traditions, holidays and customs of an innocent and energetic young America. When asked why a modern woman living in Los Angeles would devote her career to a bygone era, Wooster Scott says it is her deep love for Americana. Depicted in this piece is an underwater scene with mermaids and many sea animals. The vibrant colors used makes the painting feel very whimsical. The black on the orca adds a nice contrast to all of the vivid colors and pulls the viewers eyes to the center of the piece.
