About the Art
This is an original acrylic painting on paper by the highly collectible artist Peter Max. Known for his use of loose brushstrokes and bright colors, Max’s work captures the spirit of the 1960s and ’70s through psychedelic and counter culture themes. He has a tendency to use the entire color spectrum in his works which adds to the psychedelic 60’s feel. Depicted here is a colorful form of the Statue of Liberty surrounded by dark, bolder colors and graffiti-esque markings. The overall darker colors surrounding Lady Liberty pull your focus to the center of the painting. It almost resembles a door surrounding her like a passage to freedom. The passage seems almost heavenly with the slight blending of the lighter colors surrounding her making them look like clouds.
