About the Art
Dorit Levi was born in Israel in 1952, she draws a lot of inspiration from the culture and traditions of her home. She studied art in Israel at the Wizco France Art School and learned from Edwin Salomon, one of Israel’s greatest artists. She also draws inspiration from her experiences living in Africa and it shows in the warm colors used in most of her pieces. In her work you can see the influence of Picasso, Leger, Braque, and Boulange.
Depicted is an embracing couple playing instruments. The bold, vivid colors visually mirror the loud and exciting music of the trumpet while the primarily warmer colors mirror the intense and warm feelings of love. Levi’s skillful use of cooler colors on the couple make them stand out on the canvas and it brings a nice balance to the piece.
