About the Art

This is an original lithograph after a Matisse paper cut-out. It was created for a special edition of the literary magazine Verve. Matisse returns to a central theme in his work: dance and movement. In the piece, Matisse portrays the dancer as more of a stylized flower than a human.

Henri Matisse is well-regarded as the master of color of the 20th century. He was a versatile artist who created paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
