About the Art
This is an original lithograph made after a cut-out by French artist Henri Matisse. The original cut-out was made as a model for a stained glass window for the mausoleum of art collector Albert Lasker. A grid pattern is superimposed over the floral design appearing as it would if viewed through a window. At once graphic and expressive, this piece is a late masterwork by the artist.
Henri Matisse is well-regarded as the master of color of the 20th century. He was a versatile artist who created paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
