About the Art
This print is done after a cut-out from Matisse’s iconic blue nude series. The nude figure and two plant-like forms stand out against the white background. Matisse included the green stockings on the figure partly out of necessity; he ran out of blue to paint the paper. Much like his move towards creating cut-outs due to illness, Matisse turned a challenge into an innovation.
Henri Matisse is well-regarded as the master of color of the 20th century. He was a versatile artist who created paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
