About the Art
This is an original lithograph made for a special edition of the literary magazine Verve. The lithograph was made after a paper-cut out created by Matisse. In the 1940s when the artist was confined to a wheelchair, he began hand-painting and cutting pieces of paper and directing his assistants on where to put them on large sheets of paper. This print features colorful plant forms against a patchwork background.
Henri Matisse is well-regarded as the master of color of the 20th century. He was a versatile artist who created paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
