About the Art

This is an original lithograph after a paper cut-out by Henri Matisse. The print was published as part of a special edition of the literary magazine Verve dedicated to the last works of Matisse. The cut-out was done as a study for a stained glass window design. The blue vines in the piece are lyrical and symmetrical whereas the floral forms add a more spontaneous and chaotic quality to the work.

Henri Matisse is well-regarded as the master of color of the 20th century. He was a versatile artist who created paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
