Henri Matisse was born in France in 1869. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, sculptor, and a painter which he is most known for. He began his career as a lawyer and did not start painting until 1889 after getting appendicitis. During his healing time his mother brought him paint and Matisse later said, “From the moment I held the box of colors in my hands, I knew this was my life. I threw myself into it like a beast that plunges towards the thing it loves.”
